Located at 188 Hyde Street, The Victoria Hotel has been a cornerstone of the Yarraville community since its opening in 1873. Originally called the Hyde Street Hotel, it quickly became a gathering place for locals, offering food, drinks, and a sense of community in the growing township.
Yarraville’s development began in the late 1850s, and with the opening of the Yarraville station in 1872, the area saw an influx of visitors, making the Victoria Hotel a popular destination.
Over the years, the hotel hosted various local events, from “smoke nights” to farewells for prominent community figures like Constable Crockett in 1903, showcasing the strong local spirit that defined the pub’s early days.
In the 1890s, Esther Murray ran the pub, bringing vibrant social events to the venue where the community came together for music, speeches, and celebrations.
After a recent refurbishment, the Victoria Hotel has begun a new chapter, now offering a bistro, kids’ playroom, sports bar, function rooms, and a bottle shop. The menu features classic pub favourites alongside fresh, produce-driven dishes with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options.
Whether you’re a local or just passing through, The Victoria Hotel remains a key part of Yarraville’s social fabric, welcoming all to enjoy great food, drinks, and the lively atmosphere that has defined this historic pub for over a century.
